How much is a transmission and installment for a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser; Limited Edition?

The PT cruiser uses the same engines/transaxles as the Dodge/Chrysler mini vans. I replaced a Dodge Caravan transaxle with a new. (rebuilts seem to not last very well in those Mitsubishi models and even with the U.S. nameplates, they are Mitsubishi power trains.) It cost me about $2800 installed for the 4 spd auto in a 3 liter V-6 in Vegas. CA should be about the same. They wanted about $400 less for the rebuilt, but my mechanic recommended against it. His labor was the same, so he didn't get anything for having me buy the more expensive new unit.
