What to expect in my first eye examination?

it's not exactly my first eye check up but my second. my first eye was years ago they just put some eye drops on me nad made me look in sometihng so i can read letters on a wall...i want to get my eyes checked again i was wondering what to expect, is the same as my first time? i am petrified of needles, are there going to be neeldes? thank you
